Step-by-Step Guide
Check your leak rate in the myAir app. Open the myAir app on your phone and look at your nightly report. ResMed reports leak rate in liters per minute. A leak rate under 24 L/min is within acceptable range. If your number is higher, that confirms a significant leak that needs fixing.
Reseat the AirFit cushion. With AirFit F20 and N20 cushions, the magnetic clips can sometimes seat at a slight angle. Remove the cushion, align the top clip first, then press the bottom until you hear a click. Do not force it — if it is not clicking cleanly, the cushion may be worn.
For AirTouch F20 users — check the memory foam. The AirTouch uses memory foam instead of silicone. Memory foam should feel soft and springy when cold. If it feels stiff or has compressed permanently in one spot, it needs replacement. Memory foam cushions typically last 4 to 8 weeks.
Adjust the headgear — do not overtighten. ResMed headgear is designed to work with light to moderate tension. Overtightening pushes the mask frame into your face and actually breaks the seal. Loosen the straps one notch at a time until the seal improves.
Try the AirSense SmartStart feature. The AirSense 10 and 11 start therapy automatically when you breathe into the mask. If you are adjusting your mask while air is flowing, it is harder to get a proper seal. Put the mask on before starting the machine for the best initial seal.
Check if your mask size has changed. ResMed provides sizing gauges on their website and in most DME provider offices. Face shape changes over time — a mask that fit two years ago may now be the wrong size.
