Step-by-Step Guide
Use the ThermoSmart tube — not a standard tube. If your F&P machine came with a ThermoSmart heated tube, always use it instead of a standard CPAP tube. Using a non-heated tube with the SleepStyle humidifier significantly increases rainout risk.
Connect the ThermoSmart tube to the heated port on the humidifier. The SleepStyle and ICON humidifier base has two connection points — a standard port and a heated port. The ThermoSmart tube connector has a yellow or orange ring that indicates which port it belongs in. Confirm it is seated in the correct port.
Set Humidity Level for your environment. From the SleepStyle menu, navigate to Humidifier → Humidity Level. The scale is 1 to 8. Start at level 4. If you wake with dry mouth, increase by 1 per night. If you experience rainout, decrease by 1.
Enable Auto Mode for the ThermoSmart system. The SleepStyle has an Auto Humidity mode that monitors ambient temperature and tube conditions and adjusts settings automatically. For most users, Auto Mode eliminates the need for manual humidity adjustment.
Use only distilled water. Fisher & Paykel humidifier chambers are designed for distilled water. Tap water leaves calcium and mineral deposits that accelerate wear on the chamber and reduce humidifier output accuracy. Replace distilled water fresh each night — do not top off standing water.
If rainout occurs despite ThermoSmart — check the tube for a tight loop. A tight loop or U-shape in the tube near the mask allows condensed water to pool and drip into the mask. Route the tube so it hangs freely from your mask, arcs gently, and does not form any downward loops.
Replace the humidifier chamber annually. F&P chambers accumulate mineral deposits and micro-scratches over time. An annual chamber replacement maintains optimal humidification performance. Your DME provider can include this in your regular supply order.
