Medicare now covers therapeutic CGMs for eligible patients with diabetes. Coverage has expanded significantly — here's what's covered in 2025.

Who Qualifies for Medicare CGM Coverage?

You qualify if you have diabetes (Type 1 or Type 2) and your doctor has prescribed insulin to manage your diabetes. Previously, Medicare required specific insulin injection protocols — that restriction was removed. Any insulin-treated diabetes patient now qualifies.

Which CGM Devices Does Medicare Cover?

As of 2025, covered devices include:

  • Dexcom G7 — most popular; small, accurate, 10-day wear
  • Abbott FreeStyle Libre 2 and 3 — 14-day wear, real-time alerts
  • Medtronic Guardian 4 — integrated with Medtronic insulin pumps

What Does Medicare Pay?

CGMs are covered under Part B. You pay 20% after your Part B deductible. The CGM receiver/transmitter is billed separately from sensors and supplies.
